Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump blasted Benghazi Committee chairman Congressman Trey Gowdy for backing Florida Senator Marco Rubio.

"I've known him since the day after he won the primary in 2010 defeating a controversial more moderate Republican incumbent named Robert English", Gizzi said.

Trump criticized Gowdy's performance at an October hearing with Hillary Clinton on the 2012 attack in Benghazi, Libya, during an appearance on "Fox and Friends".

"If I were not convinced that Marco Rubio was not the person to ensure border security, interior security and employment security, I wouldn't be wasting your time this morning", Gowdy told the crowd.

The first clue that Gowdy would endorse Rubio came December 22, after NBC News reporter Alexandra Jaffe astutely noticed that the URL announcing a "special guest" promoted by the Rubio campaign contained Gowdy's name. Representative Trey Gowdy, a rising Republican star in Congress.

Buchanan said the danger for Gowdy is that tea party voters could negatively paint both him and Rubio in the same bad light as the campaign presses ahead. He has also co-hosted town halls with South Carolina Sen.

A judge has ordered the review of the financial records of ex-North Charleston police officer Michael Slager upon a request to use public money to pay for the former officer's defense because he is unable to.

Gowdy is scheduled to appear with Rubio at six campaign stops in Iowa on Tuesday and Wednesday. Jeff Duncan of Laurens and Tom Rice, who comes from a large GOP stronghold in Horry County, Whetsell said.

Huffmon said he could see Haley remaining on the sideline with a larger field from four years ago when she endorsed Mitt Romney.

"She has more to lose", Huffmon said.
